UPDATE: Ten Rescued As Two-Storey Building Collapses In Lagos Island

Following a two-Storey building that  collapsed in the Isale Eko area of Lagos State on Thursday, ten people have been confirmed rescued from the rubble.

The building, which was reportedly defective, collapsed following a fire in parts of Dosunmu Market in Lagos Island.

According to the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, “all ten people rescued, including nine adults and a 17-year-old girl, received pre-hospital care from the agency’s paramedics and are now receiving further treatment at Iga Iduganran Primary Health Care Centre.’

The remains of the building will be leveled to ground zero, while the adjacent building will undergo integrity and material testing to ensure safety.

The Lagos Territorial Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed the incident and noted that 14 other buildings in the area were seriously affected and require attention.

According to reports, the fresh occurrence follows that of April when four buildings collapsed due to the intensity of the fire that engulfed part of Dosunmu Market on Lagos Island.
