Mrs Elizabeth Uruakpa, a 66-year-old widow and Assistant Chief Nursing Officer at Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Ilisan Remo, Ogun State, was abducted by unknown gunmen on Thursday evening.
According to PUNCH, the kidnapping took place as Uruakpa returned from an evening church service. Reports indicate that the attackers ambushed her near her home, behind the new Ilisan market.
Witnesses described the panic that gripped the area as the gunmen struck. Many residents and shop owners quickly shut their doors out of fear.
An anonymous resident recounted the scene: “She was coming back from church around 7 p.m. when the gunmen pounced. They pulled her from her vehicle and forced her into a red Toyota, speeding away. It all happened in an instant, like a flash. This kind of thing has never happened here before, and it’s terrifying.”
Dr. Joshua Suleiman, Director of Communication and Marketing at Babcock University, confirmed the incident, saying, “I learned about the situation last night. It was shared on one of the university’s platforms, but we are still gathering details. I will provide more information as it becomes available.”
Efforts to reach Ogun State Police Command spokesperson Omolola Odutola were unsuccessful, as calls and messages went unanswered at the time of this report.
