The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila (APC-Lagos) on Friday revealed why he called the meeting that the service chiefs snubbed, saying it was because of a serious security crisis in Borno state, the epicenter of Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgency.
“We called this meeting because it was important, you can see members from Borno here. There is crisis in Borno right now.
“We wanted to hear from the Service Chiefs, to know what is going on, to know how the house can help. What are the problems, what are the challenges, to talk about strategy and what we need to do.
“I am sure you do not expect the house to fold its arms over what is going on in Maiduguri and other parts of the country,” he said.
According to the speaker, there is a migration crisis in the state, with people moving out of their local councils and heading to Maiduguri.
The speaker expressed disappointment that the Service Chiefs shunned the House invitation to discuss issues of insecurity in the North East.
