Presidency speaks as court convicts five Police officers, one sentenced to death

The Presidency on Tuesday, commended the court ruling which saw 5 dismissed operatives of the dissolved Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police Force convicted.

Source  gathered that the commendation was conveyed in a tweet by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Office of the Vice President, Mr Laolu Akande.

The tweet reads, “The Presidency welcome this important court ruling where 5 dismissed Sars officers were convicted and one already sentenced to death.”

“We expect more of such because indeed justice is the first condition of humanity.”

“We commend Police authorities for earlier dismissing the convicts. This is Progress, ” he said.

It could be recalled that on February 12, 2021, a state High Court sitting in Benin City, Edo state, sentenced a Police constable to death for conspiring with 4 other constables, said to be on the run, to kill a car dealer in 2015.

It was learnt that the 4 other dismissed constables were convicted but not sentenced because they were not present in court as of the time the Judge was passing judgement.
