Man stabs newlywed wife to death in Lagos

A 30-year-old newlywed man, Motunrayo Olaniyi has reportedly stabbed his wife to death and set her corpse ablaze in the Ikorodu area of Lagos.

The suspect also reportedly stabbed himself and escaped but was arrested by policemen from the Ikorodu Police Station.

The image maker in charge of the state police command, Benjamin Hundeyin, while speaking on the incident, said that the couple had a scuffle resulting in the death of the new bride, simply identified as  Olajumoke.

The police image maker said; ” On /04/12/2024 at about 13:00 hours, a distress call was received at Ikorodu division that a newlywed couple, one Motunrayo Olaniyi, aged 30 with his wife, Olajumoke, aged 25 allegedly engaged in a domestic scuffle in their room at Amazing Grace Estate, Elepe Ikorodu and in the process, the husband reportedly stabbed his wife to death.”

The police image maker also stated; “The husband locked her corpse in the room and set the room ablaze , while he inflicted wounds on himself”.

Based on the report, a team of detectives visited the scene, where the fire was put out, while the lifeless body of the wife was met lying on the floor with wounds in her abdominal part, while the husband was rescued with injury and rushed to a nearby hospital.

He was treated and discharged and was taken into our custody  for interrogation .”

The Lagos Police image maker also continued that; “Upon interrogation, investigation revealed that the suspect stabbed his wife during an altercation between them.”

According to the police, the corpse of the deceased woman had been deposited at the Ikorodu General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
