Gunmen storm police checkpoint along the Enugu/Abakaliki expressway killing one police officer and set ablaze a patrol van in Ebonyi state.
New Telegraph learnt that the incident happened at Ishieke junction at the outskirts of Abakaliki town on Thursday morning.
According to eye witnesses accounts in the vicinity, the unknown gunmen Slain one police officer and allegedly kidnapped another officer. Although this is yet to be ascertained as at the time of filling this report.
DSP Joshua Ukandu, the Ebonyi police spokesman, confirmed the attack and stated that the assailants also set fire to the police van there.
“It happened early on Thursday morning. I have been trying to get the details of what happened, but one officer was killed and a vehicle was burnt.
“More details will be made available soon,’’ he said.
