Final year University student, five others to die by hanging for armed robbery


A 500 level Student of Moddibo Adama University (MAU), Yola, alongside 5 others, have been sentenced to death by a High Court in Yola.

Source  learnt that the High Court, presided by Justice Abdulazeez Waziri, convicted the 6 for conspiracy and armed robbery and gave them the maximum sentence, which is death by hanging.

The condemned persons include; Munbe Bala, a final year Student of the Department of Mathematics and Education of the university in Girei, Yola, a former staff of Nigeria Communications Satellite, Abuja, Afu Stephen and the quartet of Peter Eli, Hassan Yusuf, Bobi Mabudi and Emmanuel Kenneth.

The Prosecutor told the court that the suspects had on 29th and 31st of August, 2015 respectively in Boshikiri town, Guyuk Local Government Area mounted an illegal road block on a bridge along Lafiya-Savannah Sugar Company Ltd.

He said that the 6, while armed with sophisticated weapons, mounted the road block with drums and stones and robbed travellers off their valuables. He said that they have a tendency of wearing Soldiers uniform anytime they go out for operation.

When asked if guilty, they responded that they were innocent, of which the Prosecutor brought forth 8 witnesses before the court and tendered 6 documents which were admitted as exhibits against them.

Upon hearing all the details from the Prosecutor, Justice Abdulazeez, passing judgement, sentenced the men to death by hanging, adding that he had no option under the law to treat them any less.
