There is panic and chaos in Sagamu, Sagamu local government area of Ogun State on Tuesday, following the death of a commercial motorcyclist. It was learnt that the death of the unidentified motorcyclist led to a protest by motorcycle operators in the area.
Source gathered that the deceased died while attempting to resist arrest by a taskforce put in place by Sagamu Local Government authority after allegedly driving against traffic.
A Motorcycle rider told journalists that the deceased fell down and hit his head on the hard ground. He said the impact of the fall must have creaked his skull, leading to his untimely death.
He said, “The incident caused many okada riders to come out in their large number, together they staged a protest, against the taskforce.”
According to sources, the protesters destroyed vehicles and other valuables. Meanwhile, several residents of the area scampered for safety and many business outlets hurriedly shut down.
It was gathered that the protesters marched straight to the Local Government Secretariat along Aiyepe road, to register their displeasure on the ugly incidence.
Police Public Relations Officer of Ogun state command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, when contacted by newsmen, confirmed the incident and assured that the situation had been put under control and that normalcy has returned to the area.
