Tragedy struck at Sakura Estate in Sagamu, Ogun State on Wednesday as a 23-year-old man, identified as Ayodele Gabriel, was found dead in his bathroom after a fire broke out in his one-bedroom apartment.

The incident was confirmed by the Ogun State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Odutola Omolola, in a statement issued on Thursday.

According to reports, Ayodele was discovered unconscious in the bathroom of his apartment after neighbors managed to extinguish the fire and forced entry into his home.

He was immediately rushed to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital in Sagamu, where he was later pronounced dead.

Upon noticing the fire, the Landlord of the building, Oluwaseun Emmanuel quickly alerted other residents, who joined efforts to put out the flames and rescue Ayodele.

Unfortunately, despite their efforts, the young man could not be saved.

The incident was reported to the Sakura Police Division on August 28, 2024, by the landlord.

Odutola stated that police officers have already visited the scene and launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire, which remains unknown at this time.

This tragic event closely follows a similar incident in Ogun State, where a 27-year-old man, Tolu Falansa, lost his life due to smoke inhalation after a fire broke out in his apartment in the Owode-Yewa community, Yewa South Local Government Area.

However,  the police have assured the public to carry out thorough investigations into the incident.
