Three feared dead in a Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) truck which burst near the Obiri-Ikwerre Fly-over in Rumuosi, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

New Telegraph gathered that the gas explosion occurred at about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

According to an eyewitness account, the tanker was travelling at high speeds when it lost balance and collided with a taxi.

Speaking on the development, a source who do not wants his name on print said three people in the car were burned to death.

Residents in the neighborhood who spoke to newsmen reported feeling an earth tremor and assumed a dynamite had exploded.

One of them said, “My husband told me to lay on the floor incase it is a dynamite. Our house was shaking.”

The Federal Fire Service arrived at the scene later to mitigate the explosion’s effects.

Police and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) personnel were visible at the scene of the incident, as motorists fought with traffic congestion in the area.

Christopher Kuje, the Sector Commander of the FRSC’s Rivers State Command, blamed the explosion on “over speeding.”
