The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 48-year-old man, Charles Chukwudi, for alleged forgery and impersonation.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos police spokesperson, announced the arrest in a post shared on his X handle on Thursday.
Chukwudi was apprehended on Wednesday in Lagos Island by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
His arrest followed discreet investigations into his issuance of fake court documents to unsuspecting members of the public.
During the arrest, the police found several forged official stamps in Chukwudi’s possession, including those of Chief Magistrate Admin, C/M Adeola Olatunbosun of Chief Magistrate Court I Yaba, and Magistrate A.B Ajiferuke of Magistrate Court Epe.
Additionally, a fake police identity card and a passport photograph of the suspect in police uniform, which investigation revealed he had photoshopped, were confiscated.
The investigations into Chukwudi’s fraudulent activities began after some court officials discovered the forgeries and alerted the police. The police spokesperson stated that further investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the suspect’s criminal activities.
The Lagos police command has assured the public that it will continue to work tirelessly to maintain law and order in the state, saying the arrest highlights the importance of vigilance and collaboration between law enforcement and court officials in combating forgery and impersonation.
