LAGOS– TRAGEDY struck yesterday after mob at an accident scene decended on a team of Police officers which raced to an accident scene somewhere at Pen Cenema area of Agege Lagos killing an Assistant Superendent of Police. Sources said an Okada rider had rammed onto a stationary truck and died instantly prompting his rider colleagues to storm the scene wanting to set the truck ablaze. But a team of Police officers which raced to the scene prevented the angry mob from setting the truck ablaze and that angered the mob who transfered aggression to the police officers.
The deceased police ASP was reported to be calming the mob down with a promise to effect justice for the deceased okada rider when eventually he was hit with an iron rod on his head adding that he slumped and gave up the ghost before he got to a medical facility for an attention.
Police Public Relations Officer SP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the sad incident adding that the corpses had been deposited in the mortuary while five persons had been nabbed in connection with the death of that police officer.
He added, “On19/10/24 at about 0140hrs, a distress call was received that a motor cycle rider ran into into a trailer at WEMCO junction mobile road Agege and died on the spot. Based on the report, a patro team was mobilized to the scene and on arrival, the team met a large number of motorcycle riders gathered, however, the patrol team in the process of evacuating the truck away from the scene came under attack by the riders who insisted on touching the truck as a result one ASP ‘M,’ AGED 46 years was injured on the head and he died before medical assistant could reach him while the truck driver escaped. Corpses have been evacuated to mainland general hospital morgue for autopsy. Meanwhile 5 suspects have have been arrested and manhunt for other fleeing suspects is ongoing.
