The president of the court of appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa has suspended the 2019 annual vacation of the court to enable the court to determine timely all appeals pending from various election petition tribunals.
Justice Bulkachuwa said only justices with medical appointments or other pressing family issues will be allowed to travel for not more than 15 days.
A total of one thousand, seven hundred and sixty-nine appeals have been determined and three thousand, five hundred and seventeen motions disposed off by the court between January and April 2019.
Eight hundred petitions were filed as at June 2019.
Also, seventy-seven election petition tribunals set up across the country as at April 2019 have dismissed a total of sixty-five petitions while seven hundred and thirty-five petitions are pending.
